Arsenal close to making a sale of one of their star midfielders

In a move that will reshape Arsenal’s midfield dynamic, transfer news guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Gunners are on the verge of sanctioning a loan deal for midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga to Spanish club Sevilla.

According to Romano, the two clubs have reached an agreement, with Sevilla set to cover Lokonga’s salary during the loan spell. The deal will also include a €12 million buy option clause, allowing the La Liga side to secure the 24-year-old’s services on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

Lokonga, who spent the previous campaign on loan at Luton Town in the Premier League , has returned to Arsenal this summer. However, it appears that the Belgian international is not part of Mikel Arteta’s plans for the upcoming 2024/25 season.

The Gunners’ willingness to part ways with Lokonga, albeit on a temporary basis, suggests that the North London club are keen to streamline their midfield options and focus on other areas of the squad that require strengthening.

Sambi Lokonga’s potential departure to Sevilla could pave the way for Arsenal to pursue alternative targets in the midfield position, as Arteta looks to fine-tune his squad and mount a sustained challenge for the Premier League title.

The loan move to Spain will provide Lokonga with the opportunity to gain valuable first-team experience and potentially earn a permanent move to Sevilla, should he impress during his time at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.

This transfer development highlights Arsenal’s intent to be proactive in the summer window, as they seek to build upon their impressive second-place finish in the 2023/24 Premier League campaign. By offloading fringe players like Lokonga, the Gunners can free up resources to reinvest in areas that will bolster their chances of challenging for the top honors in the upcoming season.

As the transfer window continues to unfold, Arsenal fans will be eager to see how Mikel Arteta’s squad evolves, with the Sambi Lokonga loan move potentially being the first of several key decisions made by the club this summer.
