Viktor Gyökeres By All Means Confirms His Move To Arsenal This Summer

Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres appears to have all but confirmed his impending move to Arsenal, following the circulation of a video showing him discussing the potential transfer during a FaceTime call with former team-mate Leo Østigård.

In the video, which has quickly gone viral among Arsenal supporters on social media, Østigård can be seen and heard saying: “Viktor, great talking to you. Text me when everything is signed & sorted at Arsenal…”

Gyökeres, with a smile, replied: “Yeah, yeah, sure!”

The brief but telling exchange has sparked speculation that the Swedish international is on the verge of completing a high-profile move to North London, possibly becoming Mikel Arteta’s first signing of the summer window. While neither club has officially confirmed any deal, the striker’s response has been widely interpreted as an informal confirmation of the transfer being close to completion.

Arsenal’s Longstanding Interest

Arsenal have been monitoring Gyökeres for months, with reports of Edu and Arteta identifying the 26-year-old as a key attacking target for the 2025/26 campaign. The Gunners are seeking a new No.9 to lead the line, and Gyökeres fits the profile perfectly: powerful, direct, and prolific in front of goal.

Since moving to Sporting from Coventry City, Gyökeres has exploded onto the European scene. He’s scored over 40 goals in all competitions this past season, establishing himself as one of the most clinical forwards on the continent. His combination of pace, strength and movement has made him a nightmare for defenders, and it’s no surprise that Arsenal are reportedly willing to meet his substantial release clause to bring him to the Premier League.

What Gyökeres Offers Arsenal

For Arteta, the appeal of Gyökeres lies in his versatility and work rate. The Swedish forward is not only a finisher but also a tireless presser, capable of linking play and dragging defenders out of position. He would offer a markedly different option to Gabriel Jesus, bringing more physicality and a stronger presence inside the box – something Arsenal have at times lacked against deep defensive blocks.

In addition to his physical attributes, Gyökeres has also shown considerable maturity in his game. His decision-making, composure in front of goal, and leadership on the pitch have all improved dramatically during his time in Portugal. These qualities could prove vital for a young Arsenal squad looking to make the final leap toward a major title in 2025/26.

Final Details Awaited

While fans wait for official confirmation from Arsenal, the leaked FaceTime video has only added to the sense of inevitability surrounding the transfer. Assuming there are no last-minute hiccups, Viktor Gyökeres could be unveiled as a new Arsenal player in the coming days.

For a club with ambitions of winning the Premier League and competing deep in the Champions League once again, Gyökeres could be the missing piece in Arteta’s tactical puzzle.
