Arteta Confirms The Injury Of An Arsenal Star In Game Against Tottenham

Arsenal’s pre-season tour in Asia ended on a sour note following a 1-0 defeat to arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong, and the disappointment deepened after Leandro Trossard was forced off the pitch with a suspected muscular injury. The Belgian attacker came on as a substitute in the second half but was unable to finish the match, prompting concern ahead of the upcoming season.

Speaking after the game, Mikel Arteta offered a brief but telling update on Trossard’s condition.

“He felt a little tweak,” Arteta said. “I think he tried to turn and he was pushed, and he felt something muscular, so we’ll have to assess him.”

Trossard’s injury occurred shortly after he had been introduced to inject pace and creativity into Arsenal’s attack. Unfortunately, the 29-year-old lasted only a few minutes before pulling up and signaling to the bench. He was immediately withdrawn and replaced as a precaution, but the visible discomfort on his face left fans worried.

The incident adds to a growing list of concerns for Arteta as he looks to build momentum heading into the final stages of pre-season. Arsenal had already been operating with a rotated lineup to manage workloads and avoid injuries during the tour. Losing Trossard—one of the more versatile and experienced options in the squad—could disrupt tactical planning and squad depth, especially with the new Premier League season on the horizon.

Trossard has been a valuable asset since joining from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2023. His ability to operate on either wing or in an attacking midfield role makes him an important utility player for Arteta’s system. Last season, he contributed consistently with key goals and assists during crucial matches, making him a trusted figure in Arsenal’s attacking unit.

Arteta is likely to await the results of a medical scan before determining the severity of the injury, but with just a few weeks to go before the Premier League curtain-raiser, even a minor setback could rule Trossard out of Arsenal’s opening fixtures.

The friendly against Spurs was already a difficult outing for Arsenal, as they struggled to convert possession into chances. Trossard’s exit midway through the second half further dampened hopes of finding a late equaliser.

His absence, if prolonged, may accelerate Arsenal’s plans in the transfer market. The Gunners are already exploring the possibility of adding another wide attacker, and any extended layoff for Trossard could intensify that search. Eberechi Eze has been among the reported targets, with Arsenal believed to be monitoring his situation closely.

For now, all eyes are on the medical team as they assess Trossard’s fitness. Arteta will be hoping for positive news, knowing how crucial the Belgian could be in Arsenal’s push for silverware in the upcoming season.

As Arsenal return to London for their final pre-season fixtures, the focus will be on recovery, readiness, and ensuring the squad is at full strength come opening day.
